How to Fix GTA 5 Won’t Launch Issue

Below, we have compiled a list of possible solutions that you can try to resolve this issue.

GTA V may not launch if the game files on your system are missing or corrupted. You should try verifying the integrity of your game files to fix this issue.

If the game is on Steam, here’s how to do it:

2) Right-click Grand Theft Auto V and select Properties.

3) Click on LOCAL FILES tab, then click VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES…

4) Wait until the game cache verification finishes, then exit Steam.

For the Social Club users:

1) Press the shortcut keys for Windows+R to open the Run dialog box.

2) Type cmd in the search box and hit Enter.

3) Input the following command in the command window and hit Enter:
cd c:Program FilesRockstar GamesGrand Theft Auto V
(If you’ve installed the game to a different directory, enter the path for that directory instead.)

4) Finally type GTAVLauncher.exe -verify and hit Enter.

Relaunch your game to see if it runs smoothly.

Fix #2 – Run the game as an administrator

If GTA 5 doesn’t have permissions of certain game files on your system under a standard user mode, it may not run properly. Try this setting to give the program the administrator privileges.

2) Select a category to check the devices on your PC.

  • Has anyone else seen this error lately? I just bought and downloaded gta v on steam. I can run the game fine without vorpx running. But as soon as I do, I get that error… So the game never loads.

I was able to load bio shock 1 just fine, and play in cinema mode. So the driver and everything does work…

I’m running Windows 10, oculus 0.8, vorpx 0.9.1. With a 980ti on the very latest driver. I added vorpx and gta to be excluded from my malware bytes and set vorpx to load with admin rights. I also applied the gta profile from vorpx before launching. I have or shouldn’t have any other mods installed. But I could maybe try reinstalling gta. I’ve re-verified the files though through steam.

    Thank you!

May or may not related to the problem: please do NOT run vorpX as admin unless you also run Steam and/or the game as admin for some reason.

Running vorpX as admin is not necessary normally and is not recommend unless the above condition is true.

Not sure what else to recommend unfortunately. vorpX hooks into programs after they started, so it’s hard to imagine how it should cause a “gta5.exe not found” error.

Just worked on it today, so that’s also unlikely. Social Club only version, but that shouldn’t make a difference. It’s also a quite popular game for months, there would almost certainly be more reports of this error if it was a general issue. I’d really like to be of more help, but this is a *very* odd issue you have.

vorpX creates a log in your temp folder, but I doubt it will show anything useful. Since apparently you can’t even start the game, vorpX probably doesn’t do anything. It only injects when the process is already running.

You could try to create a vorpX desktop shortcut (right click the tray icon), but that almost certainly won’t work with GTA 5 due to the game using Steam and the Rockstar launcher.

Maybe you should try to uninstall/reinstall the game and vorpX. Also please remove all mods if any are present before trying anything else.

GTA 5 is one of the most popular games for months, and there *really* wasn’t a single report of this issue as far as I’m aware. In such a case it’s relatively safe to assume that this is caused by something very specific to your configuration.

BTW: I’ll move the thread to the support section.

Was this issue ever resolved? I am having the exact same issue. When VorpX is running I get the error exe not found, but if I close VorpX program down and launch GTAV again it loads like normal.
